Stoddart Entertainment Group is delighted to confirm the development of Clancy of the Outback, a brand-new Australian family musical set to premiere in 2027.
Inspired by Banjo Paterson’s iconic poem Clancy of the Overflow and based on the beloved children’s book series by Phil Kettle and Bob Andersen, the production marks the latest addition to the company’s growing slate of original Australian works.
Created for audiences aged five and above, Clancy of the Outback is a full-scale, one-act musical that brings together heartfelt storytelling, memorable original music and a distinctly Australian spirit. Rather than creating a traditional “kids’ show”, the creative team is developing a genuine musical theatre experience for families, one that offers humour, adventure and emotional depth while introducing young audiences to the richness of the art form.
The musical is being created by award-nominated writers Dylan Marshall (Book & Lyrics) and Earl Marrows (Music), whose previous collaboration was recognised with a Green Room Award nomination for New Australian Musical Theatre Writing. Development is being led by Stoddart Entertainment Group, continuing the company’s commitment to investing in original Australian stories and the next generation of musical theatre creators.
While many details remain under wraps, audiences can expect a heartfelt adventure that explores themes of community, belonging, resilience and home through a uniquely Australian lens. Bursting with original music, humour and heart, Clancy of the Outback has been designed to resonate with children and adults alike.
This is just the beginning of the journey, and we’re excited to share more about the production, creative team and premiere plans as development continues over the coming months.
